Heart Walk Keeps on Pumping
Heart Walk Keeps on Pumping
On August 5, more than 200 members of our 澳博体育app下载 family had their hearts in the right place when they turned out at Kapi‘olani Park to walk for heart health, raising $7,000 for the Honolulu American Heart Association.
The Heart Walk is an annual event designed to raise awareness about the dangers of heart disease and fundraise for lifesaving science. This year marks 澳博体育app下载’s 13th consecutive year of participation. Gathering in the early morning hours at Kapi‘olani Park, participants enjoyed some pre-walk fuel in the form of coffee and healthy snacks before beginning the nearly five-mile walk that navigates many of Oahu’s most picturesque landscapes, including a full lap around Diamond Head crater.
“We had about 4,500 walkers this year, which was the largest turnout in history,” said Molly Johnston, vice president of development, American Heart Association, Hawaii.
This year’s event hit closer to home for MJ Stanko, Human Resources, Honolulu. “This walk was personal to me. My father had a stroke. He is no longer here. In one way or another, a lot of people have been touched by heart disease and stroke, and this event is a great way to give back to the community.”
A big mahalo to all who participated!
